You finally decided you want to blog? That’s pretty cool. Welcome then to the blogosphere. ((The blogosphere is the “Blog Atmosphere”. Think of it as an imaginary space that contains all blogs, bloggers and blog readers on the web including the content published and read))
What’s so cool about blogging?
Blogging is not just about writing stuff and making money. The blogosphere is a very nice and interesting place to “live” in. You will find good stuff to read, good people to make friends with, and I bet you have (or will find) some knowledge to share with others through your blog. Blogging is far more interesting than your usual social networking sites, although those networking sites are very good tools to use in promoting your blog. Bloggers even have their own social networks (like MyBlogLog, BlogCatalog and Bumpzee) and there, I bet you will find people you can always talk to, and listen from. ((When I started blogging about two years back, I didn’t fully understand the whole meaning behind it. It suddenly became boring and I abandoned my blog at blogger and left. Later on, I decided to give it another try and guess what, found a very good friend like Sangeeta. She is like an elder sister to me (actually, I never had one) and believe me she is someone I can talk to, and take advice from. To me, this is one of the best parts of blogging))
What do I profit from other bloggers?
As I said in the previous paragraph, in blogging, one can make good friends and have some cool connections. If you interact smoothly with other bloggers and visit their blog(s) constantly, you can gain some recognition and that will be very healthy for your own blog. Commenting on another blogger’s blog, referring visitors, voting or recommending him/her will never kill you. Just think of it as they doing the same for you,
What do I have to offer?
Ok, this is the million-dollar question. Here, we are not only talking about creativity, passion and interactivity but also about content and consistency. What do you intend writing about so that other bloggers can read and probably learn from? Content is king! The web is alive primarily because of content. Desiderata says “…even the dull and the ignorant, they too have their story”. You can’t claim there is absolutely nothing you can talk about that will pull someone’s attention towards you. You must have some good content to survive, especially for a start. One must fid a reason to revisit your blog.
Your can decide to run a blog that talks about stuff miscellaneously, or just ramble about. There are many such blogs on the Internet and I don’t think anybody will tell you that the idea is wrong. Choosing a “specific” topic for your blog, however, gives you some advantage over the rambles. When choosing a topic about your blog, I will advice you to look insides yourself and decide what you can write on. To do this, there are two things you must consider:
Blogging about the things you really know
You must have studied something and mastered it to a certain level, either formally (like in a school) or informally (like from a friend or on the internet). That is what you should consider blogging about. You must have done something over and over or developed interest in reading and researching information about it. I will advise you to include that in your list of potential blogging topics too.
…even the dull and the ignorant, they too have their story
Come on! Don’t claim there is absolutely nothing you can confidently think about. The web is full of professionals and experts everywhere, but I assure you none of them were born experts. It is a whole journey that starts with just a single step. Make that step now. Think! Let’s go back to your education. Think of the subjects you excelled in. There must be a way to apply their concept to the social world and create some content for many to benefit. Nothing has got all about it written yet. Not even the dictionary or the Bible.
Blogging about the things you really love
Most often, it is love that leads to knowledge. We love something, and that love gives us the encouragement to study it, and when we study it, we become knowledgeable that specific and related fields. At times, we are just gifted from the start and in one way or the other; we strive to improve on that gift to attain more positive results. When the knowledge or required experience / expertise is not yet viable to us in a particular subject matter, we can still succeed if we like to explore it.
What are your hobbies? You may be mad for soccer, but don’t have any idea on how a football stadium is designed or what it takes to be a coach, but you surely have millions of mini things to talk about soccer. That’s Blogging! When the big guys talk about the big things that matter, you also talk about the small things that matter. As I earlier said, passion can drive you to knowledge and expertise, but I really find no wrong starting as a reporter.
Niche Blogging for Beginners
A niche blog is one of a very specialized toping. Instead of running a blog like this one that talks about blogging, I can decide to run a blog that talks only about blogging with wordpress, or a blog only bout minimizing a blog with Google adsense. Those are niche blogs. A niche blog can be very good is you have a sound knowledge of your subject. It may be a bit difficult having readers as much as a regular mixed bag would, but yet, the database of users you finally have will be one of dedicated and faithful readers. As a newbies, you can go for a niche blog. That’s OK but bare in mind that it is a little bit rougher – the ride.

Nice informative post that you have there.
We’ve also been a one niche blog before, which is not the case anymore. Of course, there’s always something beginners should hold on to. But once your page rank and other statistics go up, you can independently start blogging about more than 1 topic only and still make some places in search results. But yes, for the newbies out there, it’ll be quiet confusing if you start blogging about several topics at ones. Sticking to something at first is always good
