You don’t blog just because you see other blogging. No! That will be good, at least, because you have a motivation; but that will be a very poor motivation if you don’t blend it with a focus. Your blogging should be oriented towards a particular direction. You must have a focus. Even blogs named “miscellaneous” or “ramblings” are not really what the name tells you. They are focused towards a particular subject line.
There are certain blogs called “niche blogs” or simply “niches”. They are highly specialized blogs that discuss on a very specific topic or field of study. One can start a blog on health, well, that is good because it is at least focused. What about another blog that talks about malaria? That sounds a bit cool because it is narrowed to a less broad subject. Now, comes another blog that discusses how to reduce the spread of HIV AIDS amongst youths? The later blog will make more sense to most people. That is the type of blog referred to as “niche”.
It is a very good thing to have your blog talking about a specific subject. To be specialized is even the best choice, but keep in mind that to be highly specialized on a narrow subject, you need to know a lot more than enough about it. I will therefore advise you to place yourself somewhere at the middle.
What happens behind the scenes? Oh! I almost went off topic.
You have learned “enough” about blogging and finally decided that it is time for your to start your own blog. The very very first question you ask yourself is not even about the domain name you will use, not even about hosting, not about the type of blogging platform, not about how frequently you will blog…etc. No! The very first question is WHAT WILL I BE BLOGGING ABOUT?
