Hello everyone,
This is Uncle Che on the line. I am sorry AZ Blogging has not been meeting up with its obligations recently. The internet connection issues I have been having is really getting out of control and I got completely disconnected on Sunday 7th (at about 11pm). Yesterday, Thursday 11th, I was assured by MTN (Mobile Telecommunication Network) Cameroon that a technician will be coming to set up a dish for the new connection I have subscribed for. Well, this is Friday and I am still waiting. Recently I have been using paid public computers to check my mails and chat with a few friends. Describing the internet connections there as “slow” will be an understatement. I hope the 512 MB connection I have subscribed to with MTN will be fast enough for my blogging activities.
For the past two days, I have been working hard on a series of posts I started a long time ago. This series focuses its attention to complete blogging noobs and to those with little or no blogging experience. I completed series 1 and Series two, and now I am introducing Series 3 in this post.
Series 1 - introduction to Blogging
Series 1 was titled “introduction to Blogging”. This series is very usefull especially to people who have only heard about blogging and want to blog but do not have the least idea of what blogging is all bout. Below is a list of topics discussed in series 1.
- Introducing Series 1 – Introduction to blogging
- What is A Blog?
- Different types of blogs
- Common Terms Associated with Blogging – Part 1
- A Short History of Blogging
- Why Blogging Became so Popular
- Differences Between a Blog, Website or Social Network (community)
- Basic Features of a Blog
- From Ideas to Blog – What Happens Behind the Scenes?
- What Do You Do When You Visit a Blog?
- Interacting With Blogs
- Bringing Together Your Favorite Blogs and Blog Posts (Social Bookmarking)
- Common Terms Associated With Blogging – Part 2
Series 2 – Starting Your Own Blog
Series 2 was titled “starting your own blog”. After letting a reader (in series 1) know what blogging is all about, this series introduces further aspects that a prospective blogger has to be aware of before getting into blogging. Series two discusses the following topics:
- Introduction to Series 2 – Starting Your Own Blog
- Blogging – Love, Willingness and Ability
- Why Do You Want to Blog?
- Content is King – What is Your Blog About?
SERIES 3 - Domains Names and Web Hosting
How can we talk about blogging to a newbie or inexperienced blogger without mentioning domain names? This series that I am staring right now, aims at walking a blogger or prospective blogger through domains names and hosting from the very easy and obvious observations to more critical ones. This series will present the following topics in an easy-to-read and easy-to-follow manner.
- Basic Things to Know About Domain Names
- Spicing up Your Blog with a Domain Name
- Where to Register a Domain Name for Your Blog
- Which Domain Name is Good for Your Blog?
- How to Point your registered Domain Name to your Blog
- Basic Things to Know about Web Hosting
- Choosing a Web Host for Your Blog
- Control Panel Basics
- Transferring Files to a Web Server
- Managing Files on a Web Server
- Basic things to know about installing a script
What Next!
During the discussions in this series, I will be taking advantage top mention all those old posts buried in the archives. Those posts might not mean quite a lot to most of us, but I bet they are the easiest possible for newbies to follow. Is that not why AZ Blogging is here? If AZ Blogging ones to tackle every aspect of blogging, then the newbies should be its highest priority.
My favorite blogging platform is the self-hosted version of Wordpress. Using Wordpress enables a blogger to portray some degree of professionalism. However, because of some cons of Wordpress like tech skill requirements and web hosting costs, I encourage newbies to go for remote hosted blogging platforms like Blogspot (blogger.com) and Wordpress (wordpress.com).
Comparing the two remote platforms mentioned above, I will encourage newbies to go for Blogspot because it is easier to use, cheaper (completely free) and somehow gives a blogger the possibility of higher ranking and traffic (most people will argue this point).
Looking forward to Series 3? I hope you find it useful and refer newbies to come and take a look. The next post on this series will be “Basic Things to Know About Domain Names”.

Hmmm
These series are very good for newbies. I never ever saw blogging being taken down from the roots as simple as this. It will really bore the pros
