Your Identity on Entrecard
One thing I love about Entrecard is that you have total control over the design and content of your card. It is no like a university in which all students have the same design of identity cards and all that changes is their personal information. No! With Entrecard, you can choose any of their designs and add text to it, or upload a design you have created yourself. All that matters is that your card should be 125 x 125 pixels. Have you ever noticed how important you Entrecard badge is? It is like an identity, a representative of your blog in the Entrecard community. As a representative, it is supposed to represent and speak for you or your blog.
Your Entrecard Badge has a Mouth
Some Entrecard badges will say quite a lot about you and/or your blog while others will not say much. Some badges, though saying nothing, will prompt, tease or challenge a user to find out for themselves while others will just lay there, dump and not giving any impression. When you advertise on someone’s site, your Entrecard badge is likely to get very many or just a few clicks to your site / blog depending on what your card is telling visitors to that site. Remember that an Entrecard user may be dropping on about 50 or 300 blogs a day and the only thing that can force him / her to stop and click on your card is its nature. He / she does not know about your blog yet. Only your card can present an invitation.
Photo Entrecard Badges
Entrecard Badges with a blogger’s photo or avatar are very common in the Entrecardosphere. If you are a popular blogger and people know your photo or avatar, just seeing your badge will tell them “hey, this is John Chow, Pro Blogger, Dosh Dosh, etc. Even if you are not a very popular blogger but have your photo or avatar in at least three spots on your blog, and have some traffic, people will still be able to recognize your badge and relate it to you when they see it.
Some photo Entrecard badges contain not the blogger’s photo or avatar but a picture of a scene or another person. They say a photo speaks a thousand words, and I think I believe that. What will you think of if you saw a card with the following photo scenes:
- mother carrying a baby
- man and woman in wedding dress
- man and a woman in bed facing opposite directions
- field of completely green grass or trees
- photo of a beach
- rising or setting sun
- dark night with stars in the sky
- man climbing a money tree
- very slim woman or very muscular man
- playing card
- variety of dishes
I strongly believe from the above Entrecards, you can give a vivid description of what the blog is all about. You can then decide to visit the blog, or not depending on whether the subject matter is within your interest zone.
Adding Some Text to the Photo
An Entrecard badge with just a photo can say thousands of things. If your photo is a bit difficult to interpret, why not consider adding a bit of text to it? Some Entrecard badges are made up of just plain text, which could be the title of a blog, a blog’s tagline, the category to which the blog belongs, or a more or less longer description to help the story unfold.
Using a Logo or Fav Icon
Some bloggers (like myself) prefer using their logo as their Fav Icon, and subsequently their Fav Icon as their Entrecard Badge. I really don’t know why a blogger will use this method. I use it just for the sake of consistency. Lately, I also decided to use my Entrecard badge as my Avatar. In this case, anyone that sees it anywhere can know it is AZ Blogging.
What do I Think about Entrecard Badges?
To me, the nature of an Entrecard badge doesn’t really matter. All I think it should be is “Unique”. The nature of your card will let it speak too loud or say nothing at all. Both loud and silence have their pros and cons, so it is left for you to decide. A loud card will immediately tell a visitor everything about your blog and they may not have the interest to click and visit it. Likewise, someone who has been targeting your blog will visit because your card says your blog is just what he/she has been looking for. A card that says nothing will not prompt someone to click and visit your blog because they will not actually know where they are gong. Likewise, many people will also want to click on a silent card out of curiosity so as to find out what the blog is all about.
If however, there is an advice I will like to give you, it will be “Do not change your Entrecard Badge too often”. You must make it a unique and consistent ID.
Please tell mw what you think about your Entrecard badge. Mine (A Z) is almost silent, saying it is the “everything” of “something”.
Is your Entrecard Badge speaking? What is it saying? Please share with me

I use just the art from my blog as my entrecard badge. It’s a man in the middle of a group all walking toward him.
I think it illustrates marketing well. Do you think I need text with it?
July 28th, 2008 @3:49 pm
To me, your Entrecard avatar says you cover every subject in blogging, advertising, marketing, networking, from A to Z. It’s an (maybe not just) American saying.
Personally, there are some Entrecard avatars I just don’t get. They don’t match the site. I honestly think some of them are for vanity sake. I guess I’m of the opinion it should really either be a logo or a relevant picture/graphic of some kind that speaks more about the site, rather than its owner.
Heh, but that’s just me…lol.
Ultimately, it is all about identity and branding oneself. And even if an avatar isn’t relevant to the site, sometimes they can be eye catching enough to make you at least check it out.

@ LINDA
Hi Linda, I am surprise to learn that you have a blog. I once clicked on your username and it took me to a profile with no info on it. Please can you update your profile and add your blog’s address to it so that many people who want to visit can find the link?
Alternatively, when commenting you can just use your name and url so that you can “benefit” from some visits. I will also like to add you to my blogroll, subscribe to your feeds, comment to your posts… blogging love.
I value repeated participants like you.
@ LALA
Here you come again. Always elaborate and hard on a point. I always shy away from the fact that AZ stands for everything about something. If you check the WHOIS database, you will see that this domain is barely 2 months+ old.
There are many things I need to do here. I am still carefully planing the lessons.
For the entrecard badges that don’t match the corresponding sites, I don’t think the admins really think it matters. On the positive side, some people click on them out of curiosity. Really!

All excellent points, my cards are all the headers from my blogs, adapted and they seem to be doing me a good turn around. I do hate when people are constantly changing their card, because it makes them hard to keep track of, also no text, again hard to keep track of. The EC has to catch your eye though, and that makes a huge difference. Love this article!

I really don’t know what to say about your Entrecard because I haven’t visited your blog or Entrecard profile yet.
@ SASSY MAMA
Welcome here. I am happy you like my post. It is very true that when you change cards too often, you make yourself invincible and your readers can’t really track you down.
I will be happy if you keep coming.
I am heading for your blog now to check you out and be part of it.
Thanks

Hi my dear friend! It’s a secret, LOL. Just for the two of us, his name is ERIC and he is 41 y/o now. Take care!

Here you come again. Always elaborate and hard on a point.
hehe…I’ll take that as a compliment.
Truly, I just meant (even tho your blog is new) that you will be covering internet marketing (that is your niche, right?) from A to Z.
Besides, you cover each of your topics from A to Z as well. Looking at all sides of an issue.
July 29th, 2008 @6:08 am
You are right Uncle Che. I am trying to change the EC badge, since i am not a computer literate and nor do i have a 125 x 125 banner image. So just the plain text image im using as a EC widget.

@ CRISSY
Thanks for the “publicly shared” secret,
Just the two of us
@ LALA
Thanks for the compliment. There is always room for improvement and I am looking forward to that. I will have to cover every aspect of blogging in detail and aim at everyone, from the blokes and the Pros.
@ VIDHYA
I am pretty sure you got many friends who can help you do stuff that you can’t. I never hessitate to ask for help.
I don’t know exactly when you joined Entrecard but I am pretty sure that it is not yet late to change your card. If the 125 x 125 banner I used to link to you on my sidebar is not really your taste, you can give me prescriptions on how to make another one, and after it is done i will direct you on how to implement it.

I plead guilty! I’ve changed my second blog’s EC badge twice already. But i think I am sticking to the one I have now. My badge is just an animated photo of a girl whom I believe is so me, hehe! I’ve noticed there are also lots of badges that bear the image of sexy girls. SO eye-catching but when you get to the site, it speaks differently of what’s in the badge.
OUR JOURNEY TO FOREVER
LAINY’S MUSINGS
July 29th, 2008 @6:11 pm
@LAINY
Hmmm
You’re not guilty beacause that was the past. Changing your card once or twice is not really bad. What is not to your advantage is changing it very frequent. If you are changing it weekly or monthly, then you will get all your followers confused. I give a 8/10 rating to the one you have now. I fully understand it without waiting for you to explain what it means. You are talking about the Musings of someone. That person is Lainy, and that is her on the photo.
I am still planing to start getting serious and marketing My Personal Blog. It is named Uncle Che Online. I will have someone draw a cartoon of me standing on the globe, with some satelite dishes (2) emiting waves and pointing towards each other. Also, with a transparent WWW at the back.
what do you think.
July 30th, 2008 @12:46 am
Thanks so much for giving my badge a 8 rating.
About your marketing blog, I can imagine it would look so great, Uncle CHe! You have a very creative, artistic and brilliant mind! Your personal blog have a very nice theme, very PRO. Are you the one tweaking it?
July 30th, 2008 @7:19 am
I used the girl from the header of my blog, because she reminds me of me when I was younger, and my blog is called “Shades of Me,” so I thought it was appropriate. And I added some text to it in Paint Shop Pro.
I really enjoy checking out people’s cards. Some people are so creative. Some are very enticing and you’re right, I am very curious about them and have to go check out the blog.
I really think it does make a difference if you’ve got an attractive card.

Oh, Come on.
My Math lecturer always told us no one deserves 10. But really, I never believed him
I will take those qualities as compliments. When it comes to physics, I will admit and embraze them. Not really in blogging.
As for my personal blog, I am still to get to it. I want to give AZ Blogging a foundation first. And to be honest, though “personal” I am still to decide on a niche for it
The 8 rating was just a genuine one from my point of view. Don’t ask me why you didn’t get 10
@ KELLY
Welcome to my humble AZ Blogging. I checked out your card and I believe the matching to your blog is just great.
I am happy “our” kid sister is ok now. I checked just to see a positive reply and i did. See you on your blog later.
Thanks
July 30th, 2008 @9:25 am
OK, Uncle CHe. I won’t dare ask why I didn’t get a 10, I’m already satisfied with the 8, hehe! Your personal blog looks like a pro. You are having a great foundation here in your site. We will be right behind you all the way.
Goodluck!

Just a single phrase..

September 5th, 2008 @10:00 pm
Hi Himoacs, learning is a good thing and don’t miss each time you have the opportunity to learn.
Sorry something went wrong and I couldn’t get your web link to pay you a visit. I hope you will come back and comment again.
October 20th, 2008 @1:13 am
@for readers of this blog.
maybe i checked out this blog and post too late but still commenting here. Well it took me some time to realize the worth of Entrecard. Now i want to drop more and more so will be holding a contest shortly to get recognized as mine is a PR3 blog with huge page views that must be a great contest
November 11th, 2008 @12:10 am
My Entrecard is not saying much of anything except that I’m plain and boring. When I logged in to EC and saw everyone’s snazzy cards, I had to find out where to get one, because I myself, click on the “pretty” cards. I wouldn’t click on my card. It stinks! I posted in the EC forum for someone to explain how to get one of those snazzy cards and a couple people posted some links to some sites where I can customize a card, so I’m excited about that.
As far as your card, It says “artsy” to me. I would think the blog is about art or some type of design, or marketing.
