Since I started out blogging late quarter of last year, I have never implemented comment moderation. I don’t like the idea of filtering comments for the major reason that I am adhering to free airing of opinions and views, may it be in disagreement with mine. It would be a sheer contradiction when I keep posting YOUR COMMENTS WILL BE HIGHLY APPRECIATED and bloggers will take time to write there comments and when they are ready to publish it, they can’t even see what they have just written, because still subject for the blog owner’s approval. It wouldn’t just fit for the things I want to happen for my blog.

For me, interaction is in place for a blog if the comments aren’t subject for moderation and the blog owner is responding to the comments whenever he can. Although the points you’ve mentioned about spams and nasty comments are all taking place here in the blogosphere, we can always opt to delete unwanted comments after commenters have posted it.

I ahd one bad experience, UNcle CHe. I’ve received one nasty comment, he was attacking my person and I just didn’t like it. But instead of deleting it, I replied to his comment so that other bloggers will know how nasty and rude he was.

Whichever way you may want to implement your commenting system, I will always be coming back here to read your updates.
CHEERS!

This being the world wide web, it’s difficult to be online all the time to monitor 24 hours a day.

That being said, I moderate. I’ve been getting some funky pingback postings in my comments from Russian sites (and one from a jail blog in Florida). So, yeah, I moderate.

I guess it would be just as easy to let them post and then go back and delete the comments afterwards, but I’d rather stop them before they come in the door.

@ TOP PENNY
Hi, I don’t know what you have done, but I hope it was legal or ethical. Was it? Please I will be happy if you tell me.

@SCOTTY’S PRINCESS
Here comes the princess. How is your prince?
The title of this post is a question that i will like bloggers, especially the noobs and semi-pros, to ask themselves. As for the, the answer is a obvious “NO COMMENT MODERATION”. Despite the pros and cons of both sides, I will like freedom of speech to prevail in my blog.
It was wise replying to an inappropriate comment rather than deleting it. That tells your readers something about you that words can not express. You show respect even to someone who doesn’t deserve it.
My comments are not being moderated and I love it this way.

@ LALA
You are right. It is difficult being online all the time just to check for comments and moderate them. To me, that is what sucks most about comment moderation.

There are two types of spam comments, by robots and by humans. Robot spam can easily be solved with Captcha. As for human direct spam, it takes some extra work and time…

I’m kind of thinking this might be robot because the name and comment usually only contains a bunch of ?????????

I’ll look into that program. Thanks.

As newbies I prefer without moderation. So far I have one bad experience but I take it positively.

My friend who taught me about this blogging thing had my comments moderated from the very beginning and i haven’t changed it since then. She had it that way so i can filter my comments since some can be rude when it comes to commenting. But after reading your post, well, i’ll think about it.

I do moderate my comments.

Why?

Cause I have the urge to spend times reading them.

And I always reply to all comments.

AZ Blogging said in August 7th, 2008 at 9:22 pm

@ BONORIAU
I also prefer going without moderation. You did well by not letting one bad experience poison your mind.

@ LYNN
Your friend probably did well by turning the comment moderation on since you were still a noob. However, as you grow in the blogosphere, you should start thinking of what is actually good for you. Welcome.

@ PANGERAN
Welcome.
You have brought up one very good point that i failed to realize. It is very true that when comment moderation is turned on, you are always urged to read the comments.
However, I still read every comment and make sure I reply to at least 90% although comment moderation is not active on this blog

I will like to thank everyone for dropping by and giving me your opinions. It was nice having you here. I hope you will come back for the next post. I will get to your respective blogs as soon as I am through writing the post for today. Thanks

No, probs.

I’m impressed with your blog design and structure.

At first glance, I though it was WordPress self hosted.

I only knows it was build on blogspot after I click post comments.

Hi Pangeran,
I have always love to use wordpress but unfortunately the wordpress version of this theme doesn’t work as good this this one. Anyway, I have switched to wordpress and done some hacking on it, blending it with the box-tube, another favorite theme.
