On the previous post, we talked about rambling on the blogospghere for a while (about 10 weeks) before you finally stand on a niche. I consider that a very good approach to niche-blogging. We also outlined the type of expertise and experience that is required for one to blog in a specific subject. Now, if you don’t read that post within the line, you may be tempted to draw two (wrong) conclusions.
–>Niche-blogging is very important and everyone must finally settle on a niche.
–>Rambling has no place and is for those who don’t have skills and experience in a specific subject.
False! I didn’t mean any of the above. I realized that some people are disappointed with themselves that they can’t really find a niche they can blog on. Who says the blogosphere is all about niches? You don’t have to look down on your blog because you are rambling.
A friend told me she would be starting her own blog soon, and when I asked her what she wants to blog about, she said “nothing specific”. “I will just blog about anything that comes to my mind, anything I have the least idea about, and anything I feel someone can read and come back to the blog another day”. I don’t have any problem with the answer she gave. The problem is the way she said it. From her voice, she sounded low and could not look into my eyes while saying it. She did not put on the type of smile I would expect of a new blogger. She really made me think she felt her blog will be close to nothing because she wants to ramble.
Is that the same way you feel about your blog because you are rambling? Come on! Give your blog a break. Who told you that rambling makes you less smart, less responsible or less productive? For a moment, let’s forget about the blog as a whole and consider things at the level of the post. Whether rambling or not, a good blog is made up of good posts. Put in the best that you can in your post. Make it a resource that someone can either learn something new from it, or refresh his/her mind on already known issues. Make it conversational, easy to read and void of grammatical errors and spelling mistakes.
Most rambling blogs don’t get visible in search engines because the bloggers take rambling “too serious”. Rambling actually means posting just about “anything”. How “any” should anything be? To increase the keyword density of your rambling blog, reduce the number of topics you ramble on.
Normally, I hate writing solely from the search engine point of view. I hardly play around with keywords to deceive the search engines. The pros will tell you how good this is for SEO. But for me, I give greater priority to the readers than the search engines. No need making my post easier for Google and more difficult for You. Playing around with topics, however, is a bit different. You still maintain your writing style but choose just the topics you can write on best. That is rambling, quite alright, but you are taking it to a more productive level. Isn’t it better having 100 posts on 25 different topics than 100 posts on 100 different topics? You can be good at 25 topics, but being good at 100 topics is a bit of a problem.
I once read a certain post (sorry I didn’t bookmark it) and the author said, “if you can’t describe your blog in one word, then you are not blogging about anything”. I don’t second that.
Are you rambling? Be proud of your rambling blog!

Now this post gave me a little self-esteem, Uncle Che. More frequentlly, I look down on my blog because I have no specific niche, just rantings, raves and whinings on daily life’s experiences.
For the nth time, you gave blogging a better dimension and somehow, those SEO addicts will soon realize most of their readers don’t understand what they have been blogging about. But I do admit, i really want to learn some SEO techniques. Not much time for me to learn though.

Come on, Lainy.
You’ve always had self-esteem. Maybe you were just too stubborn with yourself and refusing to see it
The success you are having with your blogs says it all. You are not a trial and error blogger. You know exactly what you are doing and you do it well enough.
-Good post structure
-Conversational nature
-Good language and writing style…etc
I only hope will one day believe you are a very great inspiration to me.
Welcome.

Now you end with the question “If I asked you to describe your blog in one word, what will you say?”
My message is Hello. That is just one word, but it expresses all colors of the palette.
