Why blogging became so popular? I pondered on this question for sometime when I entered the blog world. Please have a look at this post that discusses the history of blogging and examines the timeline. From the timeline it seems as though blogging was born overnight and just got matured the next day. Why so?
There are three main reasons why blogging rapidly became popular:
- Freedom of expression
- Complete ownership of content
- Ease of blogging
People who run their own blog stand as independent journalists. They do whatever they want whenever they want and however they want it. It is some sort of free press. They are hardly controlled by anybody and their work is not queued up for review prior to publishing.
Having the ability to access one’s content ad edit it as required is what most people embraced about blogging. Complete ownership of content is like a dream come true when one is running his/her own blog. With most other only writing media, once content is published, ownership changes hands and the option to edit the content becomes unavailable.
At the level of an average Internet surfer, maintaining a blog is far easier than building and running a website. People who could not run a site, probably because they didn’t have any knowledge of web design embraced blogging. Online blogging software services such as blogger and wordpress makes the process of installing a blog as easy as just signing up for one.
